Install git – Ubuntu 18.04 & Windows 10

Git is a free and open source distributed version control system that handles from small to very large projects. Version control system is a system that reads changes to a file or set of files over time so that you recall a specific version later. Each separate set of files is called repository(repo). Git designed as a distributed but often used as decentralized. Git works best with the command line, but if you want a GUI client, you can download them here.

Ubuntu 18.04 installation

Open terminal. Add the PPA for the latest and stable version.

add-apt-repository ppa:git-core/ppa

Press Enter. No need to run apt-get update. Now install git:

 apt install -y git


Windows 10 installation

Open your web browser and go to git official page. The download will start automatically, if not select 32 or 64 bit version to download. Start the installation file. Click Next >

Change the installation location if you have to and/or click Next >

Click Next >

Click Next >

Choose which editor you want git to use and click Next >

Click Next >

Click Next >

Click Next >

Click Next >

and finally click Install


Click Finish

Now open Git Bash.
